COORDINATES

In Words

In this subsection you will find links to my episode reviews and other essays for Supernatural that I posted in my livejournal. I wanted to have my art and my writings together in one place, but found it easier to just link to the already published files, instead of coding the massive amount of text directly into my website. It also allows the readers to comment, if they wish to do so.

I started to write episode comments pretty soon after I got into the show, namely with Scarecrow, but unfortunately those early 'reviews' are pretty useless and not a very interesting read, so I didn't republish them on livejournal. My comments took on a more analytic and in depth quality around the end of S1, but I intend to a) catch up on the early S1 episodes that I didn't review at all and b) re-work my late S1/early S2 reviews into a more agreeable form. I hope that I have all episodes complete at some point.

What do you get?

My reviews are a mix of personal squee/rants - depending on the episode, obviously - and meta analysis. The latter mostly focuses on the character development of the brothers Winchester, but I also look at the mytharc, recurring characters or the monster-of-the-week plot, if they catch my attention. The length of my reviews can range from 4 to 8 pages, depending on the complexity of an episode, but as a general rule the earlier reviews are considerably shorter than the later ones. I don't do episode summaries, so reading presumably only makes sense if you know the episode I am talking about. I try to be structured and concise in my reviews, but sometimes I get carried away. You have been warned! *g*

I usually write a first time impression of newly aired episodes, although it does happen that my assessment of an episode changes after multiple viewings or with information from later episodes that shed a new light on it, so a review not necessarily reflects my ultimate opinion of an episode. Anyway, I tend to break down the episodes into different themes, like Dean'n'Sam, Dean, Sam, monster-of-the-week plot, mytharc plot etc, lead into the respective section with a quote and then just draw from the episode what fits there and hope the reader follows my ramblings. If something if unclear, feel free to ask for a clarification. I am always up for a discussion.

Last but not least: I am not a native speaker, so I can't always guarantee for flawless spelling and grammar, but I've been told my writing is comprehensible, well, most of the time anyway. :)
